Ocean City has beautiful beaches and a great boardwalk, making it the perfect getaway for friends and family in the summertime. But one of the really great things about this beach town is that it’s also a small town. Businesses like ours line the main street, and residents and visitors alike come out often to celebrate this weird and wonderful place we all call home.
One of our favorite events is the annual Doo-Dah Parade, which celebrates the silly and reminds us all not to take ourselves too seriously. Marching bands, floats, and a brigade of 500 basset hounds stroll down Asbury Avenue to mark the beginning of the season, when events like these become a regular occurrence. In just a few weeks, for example, Spring Block Party will bring hundreds of merchants and visitors together for a blocks-long sidewalk sale.
Actor Erik Estrada and his famous smile helped us celebrate this year as grand marshal of the parade, and we all had a wonderful time on one of the few warm, sunny days we’ve seen this spring! How could we not? After all, how often do you get to see the star of CHiPS being trailed by hundreds of squishy basset hounds?
We hope you’ll join us for the rest of this season’s events, starting with Block Party on May 5th!
